Podcast Review: Lights Out

Lights Out

If you aren’t familiar, Mile Higher is a true crime podcast that has been a consistent member within the top 50 on the podcast charts. It’s a weekly podcast that is hosted by a wonderful husband and wife duo, Josh and Kendall. If you haven’t checked out the podcast yet, we highly recommend it. However, this review will focus on their new podcast, “Lights Out” produced by Mile Higher Media. Instead of Kendall, Josh teams up with his brother Joel to dive into dark and sinister cases, often with a paranormal twist. I was  noticing that Lights Out was climbing the charts over the last two weeks and had to add it to my weekly listening. I’m sure I am not the only one running through podcasts like supermarkets are running through toilet paper! It’s one of the best true crime podcasts.

Each week, Lights Out tells a dark story with  topics ranging from cults, hauntings, serial killers, demonic possession, and many more. Despite the topic, this podcast aims to give you chills – and it will. The first episode is about a family moving into a house and the demonic forces they encounter. The second episode is about the infamous Green River Serial Killer. I’ve heard a number of podcasts about the Green River Serial Killer, but Lights Out’s episode gave me chills. This is definitely not an episode to listen to before bed. I learned the hard way! It’s a top podcast of 2021.

Lights Out shares the type of stories you would tell friends either around a circle by a fire or under the covers with a flashlight. It’s about dark stories with some type of unexplainable force—call it paranormal, evil or just plain sinister. Anyone getting “Are You Afraid of the Dark” vibes yet?

Although Josh and his brother are no amateur podcasters, I was expecting the first episodes to leave some room for improvement. But they are well put together and the production is first class.  I did not even realize this was a new show until I started to do some research.

Lights Out drops a new episode each Friday. If you are looking to hear some campfire horror stories as you hunker down with family and friends or a roommate during quarantine, then this is where you should start.
