I haven’t been hooked this quickly in a long time. Within 5 minutes of The Shrink Next Door I was instantly curious. At the end of the day we all enjoy podcasts that can tell a story, and TSND is quite the story.
The trick to telling others about this podcast is to not give it away. Simply put, a down on his luck New York businessman sees a shrink who winds up becoming his business partner, financial advisor, and guardian? Well…I’ll leave that for you to decide.
What puts this podcast really over the top is the first-hand account by veteran New York Times writer Joe Nocera, who is summer home neighbors with the subjects of the story. He covers all his bases and keeps the listener engaged with his storytelling along the way. My lone criticism of the Shrink Next Door is that it feels a bit long. The story feels drawn out and could be told in fewer episodes. The only minor critique in an otherwise wonderful use of 45 minutes.
