Small Town Murder

Small Town Murder

Small Town Murder is a unique podcast because it is a comedy show about True Crime hosted by comedians James Pietragallo and Jimmie Whisman. The duo is upfront about the purpose of the show – it’s strictly comedy. When I first heard the show I was immediately turned off by the concept and the jokes about the crime. Sounds pretty heartless right? Each week the pair focus on a crime that takes place in a small town—and like to pick on the people who live there, the crappy detective work, and the cultural nuances.

After listening to a few episodes by the recommendation of friends, I started to laugh during the show. The pair’s crafty jokes and timing make it hard to not crack a smile, even if the concept of the show is a bit unorthodox. Because of their day time jobs, the production quality is top notch and helps the show run smoothly through all 120 minutes. They also thoroughly research their episodes, so even if you do not agree with the style, the facts will be accurate.

Overall, I would try out a few episodes. They hit 100 episodes, and also host another podcast, “Sports and Crime”. They clearly know what they are doing and have a loyal following across both podcasts. The show recently moved off the podcast one network, which signals that they are either growing or starting to decline. You be the judge.
